Marysville, OH has a great community spirit, which includes lots of fun local events that bring neighbors together. Mark your calendar for our three favorite outdoor activities taking place in the Marysville area this summer.

1. Open Barn Days at Sunrise Sanctuary

Sunrise Sanctuary is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that cares for previously abandoned, injured, abused, and neglected pets and farm animals. Residents of the 19-acre sanctuary include goats, horses, pigs, cows, sheep, cats, dogs, small mammals such as rodents, and birds. Once a month, you can get close to these cute creatures and tour the grounds at an Open Barn Day event. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 3 and older (younger kids are free).

Upcoming Open Barn Days will take place June 24 from 1 to 3 p.m., July 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and August 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. These events raise money to operate the sanctuary and take care of its animal residents. Sunrise Sanctuary is located at 16730 Martin Welch Road in Marysville.

2. Union County Farmers Market

Enjoy the summer weather and pick up the freshest local produce at this weekly farmers’  market, held every Saturday morning from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. You’ll also find baked goods, jams and jellies, farm-raised meats, and handmade products like soaps and natural fiber clothing.

In addition to food vendors, the market has occasional special events like Flash to the Past, an exhibit of work and farm vehicles from pre-1970 on July 22. Union County Farmers Market takes place at Partners Park, located at 125 East 6th Street in Marysville.

3. All-Ohio Balloon Fest

One of the signature annual events in Marysville, the All-Ohio Balloon Fest gives you the chance to see dozens of colorful hot air balloons floating in the sky. You can enjoy live performances by the Beach Boys, The Wallflowers, and other acts. The fest also includes food vendors and other booths, rides, and a special kids’ area with slides, face painting, an obstacle course, and more.

The All-Ohio Balloon Fest has been going on since 1975 and draws visitors from all over the world. This year, the balloon fest will take place on August 10, 11, and 12 at the Union County Airport at 15000 Weaver Road in Marysville. General admission prices vary from $10.99 to hundreds of dollars for VIP packages if you plan to attend in style. Parking costs $5 at the gate.
