A vehicle's AC.

When you turn on your AC on a hot day to cool you down, you expect gusts of cold air. Your car AC not working can be very frustrating and annoying. Fortunately, if you’re near Marysville, OH, your friendly Chevy dealer can fix the problem for you. We’d like to tell you more about some AC problems we can repair.

If Your AC Isn’t Cold

The AC depends on refrigerant gas. This chemical changes between gas and liquid state several times as it cools the air for the AC. Time and wear can cause a leak in the system. Refrigerant can escape from the system as a liquid or a gas, depending on where the leak is.

Refrigerant leaks are almost impossible to see, as the liquid evaporates in contact with air. Our technicians will pump a UV chemical dye into the AC system. They will then use a UV scanner to trace the path of the refrigerant through the system. Once we find the leak, we’ll repair it ASAP and refill the refrigerant gas. You’ll have cold air in the cabin again in no time.

There’s a Bad Smell From the AC

In the winter months, your AC won’t be used. During this quiet time, bacteria and mold can start to grow in your AC. The spores from these organisms are carried in the air, and they enter the air ducts in the air drawn into your AC. The ducts provide darkness and moisture, which makes them the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold.

A damp, musty smell when you first switch on the AC in summer is a sign that bacteria have taken up residence. We’ll remove and replace the air filter, and our technicians will pump a strong antibacterial and anti-mold solution into the AC. This chemical will rapidly clear these organisms from the AC system, and you’ll have fresh-smelling air.

There’s No Airflow Through the Ducts

If you turn on the AC and no air flows into your cabin, the most common cause of the problem is a blockage in the vent or air ducts. The air your AC uses is drawn into the system through a vent just below the windshield. The air then enters the AC system and is chilled. The cold air will then blow through the ducts into your cabin.

Dirt, leaves, and other debris are drawn into the system with the air. Over time, this debris can clog the outside vent or block the ducts. We can clear the ducts and clean the vent to fix this problem.
