The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium displays more than 10,000 exotic and indigenous animals from Asia, Africa, Australia, and North America. The animal exhibits closely resemble the habitats where these incredible creatures come from, and zookeepers lead daily behind-the-scenes tours where you can find out more about these amazing critters.

2. The Olentangy Indian Caverns

The fascinating Olentangy Indian Caverns is 18.3 miles from Marysville at 1779 Home Road in Delaware. Here you can stroll down winding underground passages to explore ancient caverns carved out of limestone by an underground river millions of years ago. It’s here, in the caverns, deep underground, where the  Wyandot tribe took shelter from the weather and hid from their enemies.

The museum at the cavern entrance offers self-guided tours with audio recordings and interpretive panels and displays the tribe’s stone implements and arrows found in the cavern rooms.

3. Perkins Observatory

While in Delaware, visit the only observatory in Central Ohio to explore the night skies. Perkins Observatory is at 3199 Columbus Pike #43015 and hosts daytime solar observations, rocket launches, and many public programs and activities year-round. Their stargazing events on Friday evenings are especially popular.

A bit further away from Marysville at 3901 North High Street in Columbus lies a fragrant 13-acre rose garden with a variety of 12,000 rose bushes tucked away in the 149-acre Whetstone Park. The spectacular Columbus Park of Roses is the most extensive rose garden in the United States and displays heritage roses from an era before the modern cultivation of roses.

5. Madison Lake State Park

Take the road to London, 29.3 miles away, to spend the day in nature in Madison Lake State Park at 48 East 60 Park Drive. Discover the vast Darby Plains of Ohio by hiking down scenic trails to observe larks, kestrels, pheasants, and bobolinks and catch glimpses of woodchucks, ground squirrels, and red foxes,
