A beautiful horse at a horse sanctuary.

Marysville, OH, boasts a vibrant Uptown District packed with local attractions and a caring animal sanctuary that does things differently. Take a drive in a Cadillac Escalade, Buick Encore, or Chevrolet Traverse and explore the city’s historic streets and spend a wonderful few hours on a farm surrounded by happy animals.

1. Explore Marysville’s Uptown District

Marysville’s beautiful Uptown District, a vibrant area that hosts an array of fairs and festivals throughout the year, is filled with historic buildings from 1860 to the early 1900s, including the Union County Museum and the Avalon Theatre. Two buildings, Auer Grocer at 225 East Fifth Street and the Marysville Cabinet Company at 204 East Fourth Street, still bear original signage.

Stroll to 103 South Main Street to look at the “Union County’s Giant,” an art installation honoring Colonel Noah Orr, admire the All Ohio Balloon Fest mural at 27 North Main Street, and the Reuben Partridge Mural at 130 North Main Street, celebrating the man who built the many bridges in Central Ohio. Also, pop in at The Scotts-Miracle Gro Company Store, a historic hardware store that opened its doors in 1868 and still displays vintage goods.

2. Visit the Union County Museum

The Union County Museum is in the beautifully restored early twentieth-century Morey family residence at 246 West 6th Street in Marysville’s Uptown District. The building boasts original gas light fixtures, cobalt-blue stained-glass windows, and oak and maple woodwork.

The exhibits include prehistoric Indian artifacts, an antique toy collection, the most extensive collection of items relating to Vice-President Charles W. Fairbanks, and a 1905 Turner Automobile, the first built in the county. The 1830’s style Weller Log Home, next to the museum, is furnished precisely how it would have been in the early nineteenth century.

3. Watch a Stage Production at the Avalon Theatre

The 1930s-style Avalon Theatre at 121 South Main Street in Marysville’s Uptown District opened in 1936, and to this day, its the center for culture and the performing arts in the city. The theatre offers premier art experiences, including top-class live stage performances by local and professional artists. Enjoy comedies, concerts, music, and movies all year round and a cup of locally roasted coffee at Cafe Avalon, the theatre’s premium espresso and coffee bar.

4. Play With the Animals at the Sunrise Animal Sanctuary

All the animals roam freely on Sunrise Animal Sanctuary‘s open green pastures at 16730 Martin Welch Road in Marysville. Visit the sanctuary on Open Barn Days to pet and cuddle the many happy creatures that were once abandoned, abused, or neglected.

Spend a few amazing hours playing with the cows, horses, ponies, goats, pigs, chickens, and turkeys, and watch as they enjoy their freedom basking in the sun, rolling around on the grass, and playing in the mud. Open Barn Days are extremely popular, and tickets are limited, so book a spot well in advance.

Discover the county’s history, enjoy a live stage performance, and spend a day on a farm with an array of happy animals. Call Coughlin GM of Marysville today to schedule a maintenance appointment to ensure your vehicle is in tip-top condition and safe on the road.
